<description>Latest news: local architect and designer Umut Yamaç has been hanging lilies and dusters in the window of our Whitechapel Shed window - find out more here.

The Whitechapel Shed is an urban habitat for people who like to design things, fix things and play with things. It is a place to come and potter on your own, or to connect with other people by making things together.

We are still developing the facilities in the Whitechapel Shed and we need your help. Please look here to find out how you can help us. And here if you would like to volunteer with us. If you would like to run a workshop or event with us, please contact tessy@outoftheordinary.org.uk.

The Whitechapel Shed is at 3-5 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1DU, a stone's throw from Brick Lane Market and the Whitechapel Art Gallery. Click for a Google map here. We are currently open Monday - Friday 10am-6pm and we'll soon be open seven days a week.

It's not just grown-ups who need places to potter and tools to tinker. Every kid deserves a bit of quality shed time. The Kids' Shed is the place to hang out for the Easter holidays if you want to learn how to make a kaleidoscope or a kite, design a robot or a rocket, or just learn to distinguish your pliers from your pincers. Step inside this pop-up DIY haven to discover a world of incredible instructions, malleable materials and friendly technicians.

Download a flyer for The Kids' Shed here.
Click on a map to find The Kids' Shed here.

There is no need to book unless you are bringing a group of more than 4. Just drop in and start making! We ask for a suggested donation of £2 per child per project to help cover costs.

Parents are responsible for their own children while they are using The Kids' Shed. Children over 4 maybe left for up to 2 hours at parents' own risk. Refreshments are not available to children should bring whatever they will need.

The Kids’ Shed is grateful for the support of Howtoons, Unto This Last, Makedo, the North Brick Lane Residents Association and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Out Of The Ordinary is a community of makers, doers and fixers. We create and manage public sheds where you can make beautiful and useful things from the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life.

Our sheds are simple places, built with bit of ironmongery and a lot of imagination. There are often demonstrations, classes, talks and other events in the sheds, and there are always things being fixed and things being made which we hope will intrigue you.

We are part of the growing upcycling movement. Upcycling is about turning waste materials or discarded objects and into new and better things. It makes sense in economic and environmental terms, but the main reason we like it is because it is joyful.

We don't have a big agenda but we do think that throwaway consumer culture fosters an indifference to the things around us, to each other and to the planet. We want our sheds to be part of building a more nurturing, more responsible, more creative and more sustainable society.

In our Out Of The Ordinary world, you can make things any way you like them. Your clock can have two faces, your chair can have five legs, your child's den can have ten ensuite bedrooms. Upcycling is about combining imagination with practical skills to create objects that are as unique as they are treasured.
