Out Of The Ordinary is a community of makers, doers and fixers. We create and manage public sheds where you can make beautiful and useful things from the flotsam and jetsam of everyday life.
Our sheds are simple places, built with bit of ironmongery and a lot of imagination. There are often demonstrations, classes, talks and other events in the sheds, and there are always things being fixed and things being made which we hope will intrigue you.
We are part of the growing upcycling movement. Upcycling is about turning waste materials or discarded objects and into new and better things. It makes sense in economic and environmental terms, but the main reason we like it is because it is joyful.
We don't have a big agenda but we do think that throwaway consumer culture fosters an indifference to the things around us, to each other and to the planet. We want our sheds to be part of building a more nurturing, more responsible, more creative and more sustainable society.
In our Out Of The Ordinary world, you can make things any way you like them. Your clock can have two faces, your chair can have five legs, your child's den can have ten ensuite bedrooms. Upcycling is about combining imagination with practical skills to create objects that are as unique as they are treasured.
